A while ago, I was asked by Aki! from 7% Solution to post about how I take care of my nails. I probably do this routine once every week or two.
IMPORTANT: I am not an expert and am not a nail technician so please don't expect this to be the proper way to take care of your nails. This is just what I do to care and maintain my nails.
My nail care routine:
1. WASH HANDS I always start with clean, dry hands.
2. FILE/ SHAPE NAILS While my nails are bare, I use a glass file to file-down and shape my nails. After that I wash my hands to get rid of the nail dust from filing.
3. CUTICLE CARE I use Essie's Disappearing trick at my cuticles and use one end of the black Revlon tool shown above to push down any extra skin that may be near the base of my nails. I use the other side of the tool to gently cut away any extra skin by my cuticles or sides of my nails. Because the Disappearing Trick can be messy, I wish my hands once more.
4. NAIL STRENGTHENER I apply a nail strengthener to promote healthy and strong nails. Two that I use are Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails and Essie's Grow Stronger.
5. MOISTURIZE I apply Essie's Smooth Trick cuticle oil to my cuticles and then moisturize my hands with Gold Bond's Ultimate Healing lotion.
I hope this was a helpful to those who wanted to know what I do to care for my nails. Thanks, Aki! for asking me to do this.
How do you like Disappearing Trick? I'd like to try a new cuticle remover :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems to work well and it helps loosen up any extra skin that gets on the nail near the cuticles :) what cuticle remover do you use right now?
DeleteI use Smooth Trick too! I put it on every night. It's nice to see how others do their nail care.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I really like it :)
DeleteYour nails are gorgeous! I have never seen the smooth trick or dissapearing trick products before... I may have to look into them. I always end up wearing an overlay on my nails, or I find they break alot... Great post!

Aw thanks! Eek yea, my nails used to break a lot before I actually started using the strengtheners. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteIt's so interesting to read how others do - thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteIt is! I like seeing how others do things also. Thanks for reading! :D
DeleteI've been wondering about this for a while, your nails look so healthy! I want to try a strengthener, I think it could help with the splits and chips I seem to keep getting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the steps and routine! (:
Hehe. Ooh I hope it works for you if you get a strengthener! Thanks for reading it! :D
DeleteYour nails are so nice bare! Mine do not look like that at all!!
ReplyDeletelol thanks, Jayne! Aw I'm sure your bare nails don't look bad at all! :D
DeleteYour nails look beautiful without polish :)
ReplyDeleteAww thanks, Ina :D
DeleteBare nails! I don't think I could post a picture of my bare nails, when I don't have nail polish on my toes because I am moisturizing, I always wear socks to hide it! Since I wear nail polish all the time its weird for me to see it with out.
ReplyDeleteYour nails look great, I think I should purchase the sally Hansen especially since I know they are on sale at my local store.
The nail tool is one of my favorite things to use! I especially if I cut a nail too short i can push back my cuticle a bit to make it appear longer.
Does Gold Bond help with your cuticles/hands? Like have you used it for a while? actually, I think I remember you mentioning it before on one of my posts! Sounds like another thing I need to try asap especially since I wash my hands so much and fall/winter is coming up
wow, super long comment, didn't mean to write a book here. :P
It's ok! I love reading your comments :) lol sometimes I feel weird seeing my nails and/or toe nails naked haha. Thanks, Sherry!
DeleteYes, the tool is so helpful! My aunt introduced it to me when I was in junior high and I've been using it ever since!
I love Gold Bond! I really feel like it moisturizes my hands as well as any dry skin areas. I use it a lot in the winter time when my skin gets dry.

Ooh, thanks for the tips! I definitely need to revamp my nail care regime...it's practically nonexistent ><'
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! I hope this helps! aww lol :D
DeleteOh my gosh your hands are beautiful!! Ok--- I need to take better care of my nails!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Aw haha :D

ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! :D
DeleteIt's good to know since you do a lot of polish and you have very nice long nails. Mine are always yellowing and brittle. I think the step that I'm sorely missing is the strengthener!
ReplyDeleteAgain, thanks so much!
I was missing the strengthener step for a long while and saw great improvement after using it!
DeleteYou're very welcome! Thanks again for asking about this before :D
I am so happy that you posted this. I always wondered about how you got your nails so gorgeous.

DeleteThanks for sharing! Your nails and hands always look impeccable! I had a glass file and the darn thing fell out of my purse, hit the ground and broke. :/ And I never even thought to replace it...LOL I'll have to try and find one of those cuticle trimmers as well. That one looks like it will do a much better job than the other kind. Surprisingly I've been using a wet and wild base coat and my nails have been super strong lately. I thought it was Sally Hansen until I looked closer at the faded sticker...haha
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! Thanks so much!
DeleteOh no!! I'm always scared about my glass file falling...eek! I really love they way they feel compared to other files. Ooh I'm glad to hear your nails have been strong with your base coat! Yay Wet and Wild! lol.

Aw thanks, Tawny! Ooh cool! I'll be sure to check out your blog! Thanks for visiting! :D
DeleteThanks for sharing, Traci! My nails are so fragile but I guess that's because I probably take care of my nails once or twice a month only. I think I need to get into the habit of taking better care of them because they break off easily nowadays.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! Oh no! I hope your nails become stronger! :D
